Description
This K. Alan Smith design is set with a gorgeous, warm golden-brown Zircon. A most unusual color of this gem variety, as most think of blue when relating to Zircon. I love how the warm color of the 14 karat yellow gold detailing wraps the stone and ties the design off with a diamond bow. Great presentation! And yes, Zircon is a natural gem substance, with this gem being fair-mined sourced from Africa.
A few facts about the gemstone Zircon:
- Zircon can take millions of years to form, some found to be over 4 billions of years old.
- Zircon’s hardness makes it useful as an abrasive and it has a high melting point (over 2500°C), so it is used in the steel industry, to line furnaces.
- In the middle ages, zircon was believed to promote sleep, prosperity, honor and wisdom to it’s wearer.
- It is named from the Persian word zargun, meaning “gold-hued”,
- Is one of three gemstones assigned to those born in December (Zircon, Tanzanite, and Turquoise).
- Is formed in just about every color under the rainbow.
