In designing this pendant, I wanted to enhance this unique sapphire’s ‘steely’ green color. The textured gold setting with the accompanying diamonds plays with underlying color within the sapphire but yet, does not detract from the presentation of this special gem.
Sapphire is such a great gem substance, especially in exotic colors, because it is so hard and can be faceted and polished to a highly refractive and reflective state. Green sapphire is not uncommon, but this particular stone’s size, clarity, and its rich green color make it exceptional. Oh, and green is my favorite color.
A few facts about green sapphire…
The green color in a sapphire comes from the presence of iron in the stone.
Sapphire is second only to diamond on the hardness scale.
Some believe that sapphire is exceptional for calming and focusing the mind, and green sapphire, in particular, brings the wisdom of fidelity and integrity to one’s life.
