A lovely, romantic story this is. A client wanted to do something special for his spouse, who had always wanted to custom design a piece of jewelry. He booked an appointment online with me and brought her to the salon to let her browse the expansive inventory of loose gemstones on display and in the vault. Let the fun begin!
KaPow!
The design process began with the selection of a stunning rhodolite garnet that I had acquired from the Tucson Gem Show. A gemstone of unique triangular shape and extraordinary color. When viewed outside in natural light, the gem was ‘explosive’ with light reaction.
Viva la Mexico!
After the selection of the gemstone, we talked about the mounting design. She spotted an Art Deco-style ring in one of my showcases and liked its styling and design aspects. (think linear, geometric, sleek, modern, and glamorous) Incorporating the unique shape and color of the garnet, pulling in Art Deco aspects such as milgraining (small beading) and linear details, I created a CAD rendering of this one-of-a-kind design. Throughout the process, the clients and I communicated closely, with the ability to transmit design renders for review and commentary. This ensured that the project progressed according to the client’s wishes, even while they were vacationing in Mexico!

The Ultimate Surprise
My client was thrilled not only with the extraordinary gift but also to have given her the experience of designing her ring. Romantic indeed!
